Stoney Creek won its first-ever Oakland County boys swim and dive championship on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022, at Lake Orion High School, finishing five points ahead of second-place Birmingham Groves, and six ahead of Novi. This was Stoney’s largest team to qualify for the County Meet and it’s the first ever FIRST PLACE for Stoney Creek HS Swim and Dive. WAY TO SHOW UP BOYS! COUGAR SHOUTOUTS: DIVE: • Junior Jayden Pone’s diving was on-point placing 8th overall and scoring important points for the team; INDIVIDUAL SWIM: • Captain JD Filbin had an outstanding day placing 1st in both of his individual events which were the 50 Free and 100 Free; just further securing his State cuts; • Captain Trevor Frerichs swam fast securing 2 State cuts, one in the 200 Free/7th place and one in the 500 Free/8th place; • Captain Dylan Schram swam hard securing a State cut in the 100 Breast/10th Place • Captain Bailey Symington swam great securing 2 State cuts, one in 200 Free/11th place and one in the 500 Free/9th place; • Senior Max Sviridov swam fast securing 2 State cuts, one in the 200 IM/13th place and one in the 100 Fly/16th place; • Junior Jack Cicco beat his own team record in the 200 IM securing a State cut and 6th place finish and a 7th place finish in the 100 Free; • Sophomore Ryan Pursley backed up his backstroke with a 5th place finish and further securing his State cut; • Freshman Will Cicco swam phenomenally securing a State cut in the 200 Free and a 5th place in the 500 Free improving on his already great State time; RELAY SWIM: • The Team of Ryan Pursley, Dylan Schram, Max Sviridov, and Ben Virkus placing 10th and securing a State cut [1:42.22]; • The Team of Jack Cicco, Bailey Symington, Will Cicco, and JD Filbin earned the team 5th place and a State cut in the 200 Free Relay [1:31.06]; • The Team of Will Cicco, Jack Cicco, Ryan Pursley, and JD Filbin lit up Lane 8 with a 3rd place finish and a State cut to clinch the Team WIN! OAA Red Division League Meet - Stoney Creek, Groves, Seaholm, Adams, Troy & Rochester

Oakland County champion Stoney Creek won the OAA Red Division meet with depth, posting a winning score of 403 on the strength of five second-place finishes, beating out Birmingham Groves. JD Filbin was second in the 50 (21.51) and 100 (46.77) freestyle events, Jack Cicco was second in the 200 individual medley (1:58.08) and 500 free (4:46.57), and Will Cicco was second in the 200 freestyle (1:47.24). Final Team Points Scored: Stoney Creek - 403; Groves - 393; Seaholm - 368; Adams - 286; Troy - 243; Rochester - 231. We added another State Team Member to the Roster, Jordan Walser for 100 back. Coach Erica was awarded League Coach of the Year.

2022 Boys MHSAA Division 2 Championships

SCHS is sending their largest State Team ever (11), and all our Captains are on the team: Captain JD Filbin, Captain Dylan Schram, Captain Trevor Frerichs, Captain Bailey Symington, Senior Max Sviridov, Junior Jack Cicco, Junior Ben Virkus, Sophomore Ryan Pursley, Sophomore Jordan Walser, Freshman Will Cicco. There were many exciting swims on Friday during Prelims at Oakland University, both best times and top 16 finishes! The 200 Medley relay made up of Pursley, Schram, Swirdov & Virkus swam the best time of 1:41.29 but finished in 20th, just short of a returning swim. Brothers Will & Jack Cicco will swim Saturday again in the 200 free in 13th & 15th place finishes, respectively. Dylan Schram & Ryan Pursley swam well in the 200 IM, finishing 24th and 27th, respectively. JD Filbin finished 8th in the 50 Free with his best time of 21.38. It will be exciting to see if he can move up with a .63sec difference between 1st and 8th! Jayden Pone finished 30th in diving with a prelim score of 144.80. Max Svirdov finished 26th in the 100 Fly with a near best time of 54.26. The 500 Free will be an exciting race for the team, with three making the top 8 – Will Cicco 6th, Jack Cicco 7th, and Trevor Freichs 8th. Bailey finished 31st in the 500 with a time of 5:01.90. The relay team made up of Virkus, both Cicco brothers and Frerichs finished 21st with a time of 1:31.61. In the 100 back, Ryan Pursley finished 19th (54.50), Max Svirdov, finished 26th (55.52), and Jordan Walser finished 38th (57.80). In the 100 breast, Ben Virkus swam a best time of 1:01.53, finishing 20, as did Dylan who finished 23rd with a time of 1:01.73. The 400 free with Frerichs, Pursley and both Cicco brothers finished 20th. It will be exciting to watch the returning swims on Saturdays in the 200 Free, 50 Free and 500 Free - Go Cougars!
2022 Boys MHSAA Division 2 Championships

Congratulations, Cougars, on all your swims at the 2022 Boys MHSAA Division 2 Championships!!! The cougars' first swims were the Cicco Brothers. Will & Jack bettered their Friday times and finished 13th (1:46.73) and 15th (1:46.93), respectively! JD Filbin swam next in the 50 free and finished 8th (21.62 & All-State)! The 500 Free had three athletes in the top 8, and all three swam best times. Will Cicco finished in 5th (4:44.66 & All-State), Jack Cicco finished 7th (4:47.71 & All-State), and Trevor Frerichs finished 8th (4:47.71 & All-State). Stoney finished 15th out of 35 teams. Congratulations!!!
