Hassler's Highlander Highlights: Week 7!
Oct 3 - Oct 9, 2021

Week 7 was a busy week for the Highlanders.

On Monday, the Highlanders introduced Bo Pickens as the new boys lacrosse coach. Bo played at Brother Rice and Detroit Mercy. Let’s give a warm welcome to the newest member of the Highlander family. If interested in lacrosse you can reach out to coach at bopickens@gmail.com

On Tuesday, the boys soccer team defeated Berkley, the number 1 ranked team in the state, 1-0. Senior Merrick Devlin scored the lone goal while John Coon had the clean sheet in goal.

Wednesday was a nerve racking day as the girls golf team teed off in a very tough regional. After 15 holes the team was in 3rd place, but the team stayed focus and finished tied for 1st with Bloomfield Hills and Troy Athens. Laura Liu was the top Highlander finishing 2nd overall. Katie and Alyssa Fodale finished 7th and 9th respectively. Alexa Camargo had a huge 12 foot putt on her last hole to keep the match tied. The tie-breaker came down to the fifth golfer for each team and our own Olivia Dance topped the other two golfers and helped Adams bring home the regional trophy. They will compete in the State Finals next Friday at the Meadows Golf Course.

Thursday was packed full of action as both boys soccer and volleyball headed across town to Stoney Creek. JV Boys soccer opened with an exciting 2-1 win as they scored with just 11 seconds left to get the victory. The two varsity boys teams played a great game in the rain and ended in a 1-1 draw. Ross Harrison scored the goal for the Highlanders. Inside saw the volleyball team come from behind to defeat the Cougars in 5 sets. After falling down 2-1 the team rallied in sets 4 and 5 for the win.

Friday was another strong performance by the Highlander Varsity Football team as they defeated Birmingham Groves 24-7. Nick Paterra ran for one score and threw for 2 touchdowns in the win. Joey Shallow and Christian Schomer had the receiving touchdowns. Colin Timko continued his strong consistent play with 3 extra points and a 20-yard field goal. With the win the Highlanders are the 2021 OAA White Division Champions.
