Hassler's Highlander Highlights: Week 5!

Neither weather or opponents could dampen the Week 5 highlights for the Highlanders during Homecoming Week this year.

On Tuesday, the varsity volleyball team traveled to Oxford for their first OAA Red League match-up. The team dropped the first set but rallied for a 3-1 victory over the Wildcats.

Thursday, had the boys soccer team at home for league match-up against West Bloomfield. On Senior Night it was only appropriate that seniors Ross Harrison scored a goal with an assist from his class of 2022 teammate Merrick Devlin to propel the Highlanders to a 1-0 win over the Lakers.

Inside the school, the girls swim and dive team picked up their 3rd win of the season over Farmington, 119-51.

Friday was the Homecoming Game for the Varsity football team as they defeated fellow OAA white league member, Seaholm, 35-0.

The Highlanders aired it out as they scored 3 touchdowns via the passing game. Parker Picot connected with Max Cibor and Brady Prieskorn while Nick Paterra found Will Krol for touchdowns.

Marco Dicresce and D’Juan Greer scored rushing touchdowns. Colin Timko was 5 for 5 on extra points.

The defense led by Tait Picot, Rocco Orsini and Alex DeGrieck held the Maples scoreless for the 1st shut-out of the year.

The team moves to 5-0 on the year as they travel to North Farmington next Friday for a key league matchup.

Both JV and Freshmen won their respective games. Freshmen defeated Flint Hamady 50-16 and JV improved to 5-0 with a 43-13 win over Seaholm.

Saturday saw the cross country team compete in the Linden Classic. The girls team finished First overall.

Amanda Soldan took 1st place to pace the team. Kaitlyn Kauppila, Stella Phillips, Emma McFarland and Haley Smith finished 3rd, 5th, 12th & 13th respectively.

Both the boys and the girls JV teams took 1st place in the event. The varsity boys finished in the 3rd spot with Brett Wyckhuyse and Jack Donohoe leading the Highlanders with their 12th and 13th place finishes.
