Hassler's Highlander Highlights: Week 3!

The Highlanders rolled into week 3 with some big match-ups and contests.

Boys Tennis toppled crosstown rival, Rochester, 7-2 in a key league matchup.

Ryan Cong and Michael Brinker won a key doubles match in 3 sets that put the Highlanders over the top. Kevin Cong was impressive at the #2 singles spot as he came from behind to win in 3 sets. He won the last ten points to take the victory. The team followed up the Falcon performance with a 9-0 win at North Farmington. Ethan Eliassen and Cooper Yakima continue to play great tennis as the #1 doubles tandem.

The Girls Golf program had a great week. JVA and JVB picked up wins against Lake Orion (135-146) and Lutheran Northwest (195-210) respectively.

Lauren Gale and Isabel Brett both shot 40’s to lead JVA. Isabel Brett had the moment of the match with her eagle on hole 25. Kate Behaylo paced the JVB with a 46.

On Friday, Varsity Girls Golf brought home some hardware as they won the Farmington Invitational. Alyssa Fodale (3rd), Laura Liu (7th) and Katie Fodale (9th) finished in the top 10 out of 120 golfers.

The Football program had a clean sweep this week.

On Thursday, Freshmen defeated Lake Fenton 34-6. The team was led by Lachlan Tillotson with 2 rushing TDs and 3 passing TDs.

JV followed up with a win of their own against Oak Park, 28-20. Gavin Farris and Drew Heppner each had 2 rushing TDs.

The Varsity team completed the sweep with a 10-6 win against Oak Park. It was a defensive slugfest.

The first score came in the 3rd quarter. Demarcus Rouse had a 69 yard kickoff return that set up a 30 yard FG for Colin Timko. The start of the 4th saw the Highlander’s defense come up with a key 4th and goal stop. The offense followed that with a 8 minute drive that resulted in a short TD run from Griffin Henke. The Highlanders are 3-0 on the season.
