Event: Museum at the Market! Downtown Walking Tour

Date: Saturday, May 6

Time: 9:30am – 10:30am

Location: Meet at the Downtown Rochester Farmer’s Market, 202 E. 3rd St.

Cost: Free

Join Museum staff at the Rochester Farmer’s Market! Buy some fresh food and then hit the streets to learn some fascinating facts to share at dinner with family and friends. Where is the oldest building on Main Street? Where were the first hotels? Where was the first house built? When did the telephone come to town? Where were all the churches? On this tour we’ll explore our downtown exhibit signs and sift through historical photos and stories while walking about a half mile.











Event: Tea in the Farmhouse – Growing Up in Stoney Creek

Date: Tuesday, May 9

Time: 3pm to 4pm

Location: Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm

Cost: Non-Members $20; Museum Members $15

We’re opening the doors of the farmhouse to host an afternoon, or low tea hour. We will explore the history of Stoney Creek Village, as we celebrate its Bicentennial. Guests get the chance to interact with artifacts and documents normally stored safely away in the collections room, while enjoying the ambiance of the 1840s Van Hoosen Farmhouse. This unique opportunity is limited to 12 people. Tea and light snack will be served. Register by Monday at 5pm.











Event: Honeybee Hangouts

Date: Saturday, May 20

Time: 10:30am – 12pm

Location: Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm - Calf Barn

Cost: $15/Non-Member; $10/Museum Member - Register by Thursday at 5pm

This family friendly program explores the world of bees. We’ll visit the Museum hives, try on a beekeepers outfit, learn the bee life cycle, sample local honey, and create a beeswax candle.

The Rochester Grangers existed as a base ball club as early as 1871. Vintage base ball is played representing a time period when gentlemen played for leisure and not for competition. You will not see any spitting, sliding, or wagering at these matches! Home matches are played at the Museum and guests should bring their own chairs or blankets, cool drinks, and sun protection.

This year marks the 200th Anniversary of the Taylor family’s arrival from New York, founding a community that still thrives today. The Taylor family moved here for its rich natural resources – commodities in high demand for at least 12,000 years. From bone tools to blacksmiths, subsistence farmers to world renowned doctors, this region has a long history of industry and skill. Explore stories of the past in this brand new exhibit! Live music and light refreshments served.
