City of Rochester Looking for New Police Chief! Current Chief, Steven J. Schettenhelm, Set to Retire after 15 years!



Rochester Police Chief, Steven J. Schettenhelm, is resigning after 15 years as Chief in Rochester and over 41 total years in Law Enforcement.

He was appointed to this position in November 2007 and previously served with the Birmingham Police Department for 25 years.

Chief Schettenhelm was instrumental in helping the Rochester Police Department achieve accreditation from the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police in 2014.

Chief Schettenhelm oversaw a department consisting of 26 full-time employees and a few seasonal staff. The department covers the 3.8 square mile geography of the City of Rochester, which includes a very active downtown.

The City of Rochester put out the following notice as it begins it's search for a new police chief.

We are looking to hire the next Chief of Police for the City of Rochester, Michigan

The City of Rochester is seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Chief of Police. The current Chief of Police is set to retire after a 41-year career in law enforcement with the last 15 as Chief here in Rochester. The City of Rochester is a community of 13,300 people in northeast Oakland County. Rochester is home to a vibrant downtown and access to various trails and parks for excellent shopping and recreation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Management, or closely related field. Must be MCOLES certified at the time of appointment. Graduation from the Police School of Staff and Command and/or FBI National Academy a plus. Must have a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible police agency management experience.

The current pay range for this position is $95,039 to $123,550, DOQ. There is also a very competitive benefit package, including medical, dental, and optical insurance along with a deferred compensation pension plan and take home vehicle.
