Spring into Action at OPC!



ROCHESTER, MI, Feb 28, 2023 - Jumpstart your spring at OPC (The Older Persons’ Commission)! Spring into Action takes place March 13 – 17, and will prove to be an active week, as area residents, 50+ are encouraged to come in and explore the many benefits of membership at the nationally recognized, award-winning activity center.

Prospective, new and current members can experience the multitude of fitness, aquatics, Enrichment and Arts classes, special events and programs offered at the facility. Everyone 50+ is welcome to visit to learn more about the benefits of joining this organization whose mission is to enrich the lives of local seniors.

OPC membership, free to all residents 50+ of Rochester, Rochester Hills and Oakland Township, provides state of the art fitness amenities, therapy and lap pools, Fitness, Enrichment and Arts programming taught and presented by professionals and leaders in their respective fields. OPC presents everything from all levels of pickleball to Zumba, cardio & strength, interval training and lane swimming to aqua yoga, fine arts, pottery, lectures, concerts, woodshop and lapidary. The facility was recently awarded the ICAA NuStep Pinnacle Award as one of the Top 5 ‘Best in Wellness’ Community Centers in North America. This award recognizes the OPC’s success in fostering a wellness-centered environment which benefits all who participate in or work at the center.

There are various complimentary and open to the public programs offered throughout the week, designed to introduce people to this wide variety of offerings. There will be a Celebration Concert with Mark Tisdel on March 13 at 6pm, and all are invited to enjoy an evening of song. On March 15, for those looking towards Spring, there will be a fascinating ‘Rewired Not Retired’ program on ‘Birding: The Spring Migration.’ New Member Coffees will be held throughout the month, where anyone looking to learn more about the organization and tour the facility is welcome to come in, enjoy a cup of coffee, meet new people and explore the facility. The many other classes and programs are detailed in the March OPC newsletter, which will be delivered to all of the 50+ households in the area.

The OPC also offers local transportation, an on-site Adult Day Service and provides Meals on Wheels to those unable to shop for or prepare their own meals. The Adult Day Service is a safe, secure and engaging program for adults with memory loss, cognitive impairment or physical disability, and is holding an Open House on Friday, March 10 from 10-11:30am. This program is a tremendous benefit for not only the individual living with a particular condition, but for caregivers as well. Stop in to learn the benefits of this wonderful program.
