Passenger Dies from Injuries Sustained in Rochester Hills Crash

Rochester Hills, MI – Sep 28, 2022 – A Rochester Hills man who was a backseat passenger in a two-vehicle crash on Sept. 20 has died from his injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office was recently notified that Suk-Joon Ham, 74, passed away in the hospital on Saturday, Sept. 24. He was a passenger in the rear seat of a 2012 Honda Accord at the intersection of Adams and Avon roads in Rochester Hills when his vehicle was struck by a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee that continued through a red light.

The Honda was travelling on westbound Avon Road and turned left toward southbound Adams Road and was struck by the Jeep. The preliminary investigation revealed the Honda had the right of way as indicated by a green traffic signal at the intersection. The driver of the Accord, age 75, and a front seat passenger, age 73, both of Rochester Hills, were injured in the crash. The men were hospitalized but have since been released.

The driver of the Jeep, a 30-year-old Rochester Hills woman, was not injured.

Investigators believe the operator of the Jeep was distracted by her cell phone at the time the crash occurred, which remains under investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Crash Investigations Unit.
