Rochester Community Schools Summer Music Theatre presents
Anastasia, The New Broadway Musical

ROCHESTER, MI – Following a two-year hiatus, the highly acclaimed Rochester Community Schools (RCS) Summer Music Theatre (SMT) program has returned with the presentation of Anastasia, The New Broadway Musical.

Performances are scheduled for 7pm from July 21 – 23, 2022, with an 11am matinee on Saturday, July 23. All performances will be held at the Stoney Creek High School Performing Arts Center, 6755 Sheldon Road, Rochester Hills. Tickets are available online for purchase at smt.ludus.com.

“Summer Music Theatre is operated as a professional production, from auditions through staging, to technical arrangements, set design and orchestra accompaniments,” said JoAnna Pillsbury, SMT coordinator and Rochester Adams High School theatre director. “In less than six weeks, our dedicated artists present a Broadway quality show.”

This year, SMT will also welcome professional musicians who have toured on Broadway to mentor and play alongside the student musicians.

Anastasia, The New Broadway Musical, takes place in the 1920s, where a brave young woman sets out to discover the mystery of her past. Believed to be the last surviving daughter of Russian Czar Nicholas II, Anastasia (Anya) is pursued by a ruthless Soviet officer who is determined to silence her. She is then swept into a scheme to exploit the inheritance of 10-million pounds, which is being held in trust for the surviving heirs of the Romanoff dynasty. Anya enlists the help of a dashing conman and ex-aristocrat, and together, they embark on a whirlwind adventure to help her find home, love and family.

Arranged by Concord Theatricals, the production of Anastasia, The New Broadway Musical, was adapted from the book of celebrated playwright, Terrence McNally, and the 1956 and 1997 films, Anastasia. The musical was elevated for live stage with a new score by Tony Award® winners Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens.

Ticket pricing is $14 for students and seniors; adult tickets are $16. Donations can be made through the “donate” tab at smt.ludus.com.
