Rochester University signs comprehensive articulation agreement with Michigan’s premier film school, the Motion Picture Institute
Troy, MI - January 4, 2022 The Motion Picture Institute (MPI) is partnering with Rochester University (RU) to offer a transfer option to its Motion Picture Production graduates.
Effective immediately, Rochester University will grant 29 hours of credit to students who successfully complete the 12-month Motion Picture Institute curriculum with a 2.0 GPA or higher. These credits can be applied to any associate or bachelor’s degree at Rochester University. Additionally, they can satisfy the Film Production track as part of Rochester University’s Bachelor of Arts in Theater, Bachelor of Science on Interdisciplinary Studies, or Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication.
Remy Bruder, Provost of Rochester University describes the partnership as "a valuable collaboration that will connect our students to an expanded network of peers and professionals in the theatre, mass communication, and digital media disciplines." She states, "We are pleased to work with MPI and look forward to experiencing the creative endeavors of our students."
Rochester University offers coursework in multiple modalities, including traditional courses at the main campus in Rochester Hills and accelerated online coursework. The Associate of Arts degree and the Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication are available in both formats. The Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and the Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies both require traditional courses at their main campus.
“We are thrilled to provide our students with a pathway to obtaining either an associates or bachelor’s degree option by partnering with Rochester University. Likewise students attending Rochester now have the option of pursuing training in film and digital media through MPI, ” says Doug Schulze, President of the Motion Picture Institute.
The accredited Motion Picture Production Program trains students for entry into the motion picture, television, and digital media industries with the essential skills to write commercial content, draft screenplays, produce, direct, shoot and edit story driven independent film projects. This training and experience qualify school graduates for entry level positions on large scale studio productions and television shows as production assistants to smaller indie feature and client based commercial projects as camera assistants, lighting technicians, field audio technicians, script supervisors, location assistants, production coordinators, assistant directors, digital editors, digital media photographers, social media specialists and a variety of other positions.
