Rochester Hills Showcases Student Talent
City Hosts 9th Annual Paint the Plows Event
Rochester Hills, MI – November 29, 2021 – For the ninth year, the Department of Public Services (DPS) partnered with Avondale School District and Rochester Community Schools to help bring school spirit and cheer to the city’s snow plow vehicles. During the annual Paint the Plows event, students in grades 5-12 are invited to come to the DPS Garage and decorate the fleet for the winter season.
Allan Schneck, the Director of the Department of Public Services, started this program with the goal of providing a new way to engage students, parents, and educators with municipal activities such as the DPS winter operations.
"The Paint the Plows is a great event that allows the students to display community art on a unique canvas and it also allows them to learn more about the Department of Public Services," stated Schneck.
Prior to the event, the DPS challenged students to view the plows as a canvas for their creativity. The guideline for decorating is that the plows need to showcase the pride of the community and incorporate reasons they love living in Rochester Hills.
"Paint the Plows was so much fun! I met new friends from Reuther and other schools too! I can't wait to see all the amazing artwork driving around Rochester Hills", said Catherine Watterson, a student participant from Reuther Middle School.
The mobile murals will be unveiled during the next snowfall in Rochester Hills where the student artwork will be put to work!
